GILT Groupe

traying from what I usually post, today I'm gonna introduce you guys to GILT GROUPE. If you haven't heard of it, it's an online shopping site - which offers high-end fashion for a phenomenally reasonable price! Fashion lines range from big brands such as Juicy Couture or BCBG to other lesser known (but just as stylish - and possibly more unique) clothing / jewelry / bags / shoes +  MOOOOREEEE. (They offer clothes for men too, don't fear!)

I just had to share this because they have such crazy deals, it's insane. Even if you can't afford some of the stuff (it's still kinda pricey when cut down, because these are classy brands) it's nice to still "window" shop and just appreciate the amazing vision from different brands. The site is extremely easy to navigate and pretty self-explanatory which gets a thumbs up from me!

Sign up to get your hands on these crazy discounts, they send you updates about their sales on a daily basis - don't miss out!!! It's totally free to become a member! Join HERE!

Article: Unica Zürn

"German poet/artist Unica Zürn (1916-1970). The elusiveness and intricacy of Zürn's nightmarish fantasies still potent almost four decades after her suicide at age 54.
"

"Her few shimmering paintings are almost ephemeral, faded, with detailed biomorphic elements suggesting exotic flowers, birds, fish, and jellyfish, all seemingly in perpetual flotation. "

"These 50 mostly untitled pieces are intricate and whimsical, prime examples of the surrealist technique of automatic drawing. They offer the viewer a fluid stream of subconscious desire as manifested in delicate, curly lines, smudged ink, twisting spirals that sometimes evolve into faces, and psychedelic creatures that curl in and out of patterned abstraction.
"

"Phantasmagorical creatures hover at the center of Zürn's sketchbook pages, as if without gravity, bearing multiple sets of eyes, breasts, limbs, and orifices, but in a somewhat zoological order: birds up high, cat in the middle, snakes and fish below, all dated and signed." -NY Arts Magazine

One interesting woman. I'm simply entranced, captivated, astounded by the lines and detail she puts into her work! I feel as if we are quite short of these sorts of artists nowadays. What happened?

Article: Paula Rego

I like to post about artists that have both engaging artwork and personalities, Paula Rego is definitely one of them.

"Art, she says, is 'disgusting and to be avoided'. What she is really interested in, she says, is 'the beautiful grotesque'"

"Paula Rego’s studio is a mixture of curiosity shop, Victorian nursery and chamber of horrors. The props serve as the models and the inspiration for her drawings and paintings, but more than that you sense they are metaphors and emblems for the world of Rego’s imagination, phantoms of memory, myth and nightmare." -Telegraph.co.uk

When I was flipping through the images of her paintings, I felt extremely... grossed out? Not in a negative way whatsoever, but Rego's truly achieved her goal of making the viewer uncomfortable, uneasy and possibly even a little afraid. Amazing work.

Article: Leonor Fini

Hey guys, I've decided to post some random news about random artists every once in awhile just to keep this site alive - freshness is at an all-time low it seems.

Anyways, this is Leonor Fini, I was reading an article about her extravagant and wild lifestyle and I found the controversy around her artwork as well as her own character very interesting.

"She produced the most outré art, liked to cross-dress and had a penchant for living in ménages à trois. And yet, despite once being infamous around the world, Leonor Fini is all but forgotten these days."

"You have probably never heard of Leonor Fini, even though she was one of the most photographed people of the 20th century. Queen of the Paris art world, she was constantly in the news - fêted for her paintings, illustrations, theatre designs and, above all, her flamboyant bohemian lifestyle."

"She knew how to attract attention and her antics never failed to make the headlines. She would dye her hair blue, orange, red or gold and attend private views and parties dressed as a man, or wearing nothing but white boots and a cape of white feathers." - Telegraph.co.uk

And man oh man, is she good! Can't believe I haven't heard of her before, but I'm glad I found out later then never!!
